On April 10, 2012, Jeff and Lisa Wilson met with Jeff and Dee Moore to discuss the need for a new kind of church in the Elgin area.
It needed to be a place where people that never liked church would love to attend, a non-judgmental place where the idea would be to simply tell people about Jesus and then allow Jesus to change their lives. We wanted it to be a place where non-Christians would feel comfortable to sit and listen to the stories about Jesus. The idea was; you don’t have to change to start following, you follow first and then you change. This was the way all the earlier followers of Christ started, they were all non-believers at first, it wasn’t till after they started following that they changed and believed.
So on April 11 through April 14 calls were made to anyone we knew who were not attending church somewhere,
and on April 15, 2012 we met at the First National Bank and Elgin New Life Baptist Fellowship was born.
In early May the church began to meet on Main Street.
In late May, Jeff and Dee Moore, along with some other Church members began to remodeling an old storage building on FM 3000
In mid-June, 2012 the church met for the first time in our new building.
In September of 2012, the church bought some property on Alamo Street for our future Church building.
That was our plan
Introducing people to Jesus and then allowing Jesus to change their lives
But this was God's Plan...
Beginning in early 2014, the church voted to raise money for a new building on Alamo Street. We would then spend the next year and a half working on a site plan and raising nearly 120,000 dollars. On October 1st 2015, we found out that the parking lot was going to cost 180,000 dollars. Needless to say, not the best news. On October 13, 2015 the City of Elgin approved our site plan; unfortunately we did not have enough money to build the parking lot, much less a building. On the morning of October 14 one of our members got a phone call that the Living Faith Worship Center on Highway 95 was for sale. Many of our Church members went to look at the building that day at 5:00pm. After seeing the building, (which already had a parking lot) we met in the middle of the Living Faith sanctuary, prayed and then made an offer. By 5:45pm, the offer was accepted. By the end of October we had closed on the new property. In early November we petitioned the City of Elgin for a zoning change on the Alamo property to commercial. By the end of the month, the city approved the Zoning change. On December 22, 2015, our church sold the Alamo property for almost 4 times what we had originally paid. The Church would then spend the next 3 months remodeling the building. Our last service, in our old building was held on February 28th, 2016. After our morning Church service, we moved from our old building to the new. At 4:00pm, that same day, another church was planted in our old location.
February 28, 2016. The day we moved from our old building to the new
God’s plan was so much better than our plan…
